How much does the CPHIMS exam cost?
The exam fee, what you pay if you reschedule, retake or renew, and what is never refunded.
All the CPHIMS fees
| What you pay for | US dollars |
|---|---|
| Exam, HIMSS member (individual, corporate or student member) | 609 |
| Exam, staff of a HIMSS organizational affiliate | 559 |
| Exam, non-member | 729 |
| Retake after failing | 359 |
| Extending the 90 days you have to sit the exam | 149 |
| Renewal every three years, member | 359 |
| Renewal every three years, non-member | 479 |
HIMSS says chapter-only and online-only members do not get the member rate. Payment is by credit card on the HIMSS site when you apply.
What does rescheduling cost?
- 30 days or more before your appointment: free.
- 5 to 29 days before: 35 dollars, paid to Pearson VUE.
- Less than 5 days before: you cannot reschedule.
If you do not show up you lose the fee you paid. A candidate who arrives more than 15 minutes late is not admitted.
Is the exam fee refunded?
No. HIMSS states that examination fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Once your application is approved you have 90 days to sit the exam; if you cannot, you may extend that period once, for another 90 days, by paying the extension fee within a year of your first application.
What is the real total?
- If you pass the first time: the exam fee only, 609 or 729 dollars.
- If you need a second attempt: add 359 dollars. You wait 60 days before it, and you may retake twice at that fee within a year of your first application.
- To stay certified: the renewal fee every three years, plus the cost of the 45 hours of continuing education if the activities you choose are paid. Details on renewing CPHIMS.
- Preparation is separate and up to you: books, courses or question banks. This site's price is on the home page.
The member and non-member exam fees differ by 120 dollars. Compare that with the price of a HIMSS individual membership on the HIMSS site before you decide to join first.
